1. Introduction to the School

Peking University was the first higher education institution in China to establish an academic research and teaching institution for archaeology. The School of Archaeology and Museology consists of the Department of Archaeology and the Department of Cultural Heritage, and houses the National Archaeological Experiment and Practice Teaching Center, the National Archaeological Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center, the Key Laboratory of Archaeological Science,Ministry of Education and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Art and Archaeology at Peking University. The School offers five undergraduate programs: Archaeology, Cultural Relics and Museology, Cultural Relics Conservation Technology, Archaeology (Architectural Heritage), and Foreign Languages and Foreign History (Archaeology). Among them, the Archaeology program is a National First-Class Undergraduate Program, while the Cultural Relics and Museology and Cultural Relics Conservation Technology programs are First-Class Undergraduate Programs in Beijing. The School has a doctoral degree program in the first-level discipline of Archaeology and a postdoctoral research station. It offers two graduate programs: Master of Arts in Archaeology and Master of Arts in Cultural Relics and Museology. Research directions include Palaeolithic Archaeology, Neolithic and Shang-Zhou Archaeology, Archaeology of the Han-Tang Dynasties, Archaeology of the Song-Yuan-Ming Dynasties, Paleography, Archaeology of Buddhism, Ceramic Archaeology, Archaeology of Sino-Foreign Cultural Exchange, Archaeological Science, Architectural Archaeology, Museology, Cultural Heritage Conservation, and Conservation Science of Cultural Relics.


2. Positions Available

(1) Position 1

Title: Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Tenured Associate Professor/Professor

Series: Teaching and Research Series

Responsibilities: Teaching and research in Archaeology of Buddhism

Requirements:

1) Ph.D. degree, with high political and moral standards, integrity, and team spirit;

2) A well-rounded knowledge structure with a broad research scope, capable of interdisciplinary and cross-specialty teaching and research;

3) Proficiency in research methods for Archaeology of Cave Temples, with extensive excavation experience in Buddhist temple sites;

4) Experience in compiling excavation reports (or brief reports) on cave temple archaeology;

5) Publications in high-level academic journals or participation in high-level research projects internationally or domestically.

(2) Position 2

Title: Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Tenured Associate Professor/Professor

Series: Teaching and Research Series

Responsibilities: Teaching and research in Foreign Archaeology

Requirements:

1) Ph.D. degree, with high political and moral standards, integrity, and team spirit;

2) A well-rounded knowledge structure with a broad research scope, capable of interdisciplinary and cross-specialty teaching and research;

3) Proficiency in English, French, or a language of South Asia or Southeast Asia, with the ability to teach and supervise student theses in English; capable of independently teaching "South Asian Archaeology" and "Southeast Asian Archaeology" general courses in English;

4) Publications in high-level academic journals or participation in high-level research projects internationally or domestically;

5) Preference given to those with a Ph.D. from an overseas university, long-term archaeological work experience abroad, or extensive experience in overseas field archaeology;6) Age 45 or below.

(3) Position 3

Title: Tenured Associate Professor/Professor

Series: Teaching and Research Series

Responsibilities: Teaching and research in Archaeological Science

Requirements:

1) Ph.D. degree, with high political and moral standards, integrity, and team spirit;

2) A well-rounded knowledge structure with a broad research scope, capable of interdisciplinary and cross-specialty teaching and research;

3) Proficiency in theories, methods, and cutting-edge technologies in Archaeological Science, with strong experimental design and data analysis skills;

4) Extensive field archaeology experience and ability to proficiently apply archaeological science techniques in field excavations and research;

5) Publications in high-level academic journals or participation in high-level research projects internationally or domestically;6) Age 45 or below.

(4) Position 4

Title: Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Tenured Associate Professor/Professor

Series: Teaching and Research Series

Responsibilities: Teaching and research in Cultural Relics Conservation

Requirements:

1) Ph.D. degree, with high political and moral standards, integrity, and team spirit;

2) A well-rounded knowledge structure with a broad research scope, capable of interdisciplinary and cross-specialty teaching and research;

3) Proficiency in fundamental theories and research methods of Cultural Relics Conservation and Archaeology, with extensive experience in cultural relics conservation;

4) Publications in high-level academic journals or participation in high-level research projects internationally or domestically.

3. Application Materials

1. Personal application letter (indicating the applied position and expected start date at Peking University);

2. Detailed CV (including education, work experience, statement of teaching experience, and research work statement);

3. Academic degree certificates (for degrees obtained from institutions outside China, applicants must also submit a degree certification issued by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange);

4. List of published papers and five representative works;

5. Academic work plan for the next 3-5 years;

6. At least three recommendation letters from independent experts, and optionally, letters from advisors or co-advisors;
